Catch the Excitement - GO FISH!
Hurricane Katrina had a great impact along the Gulf Coast but many boats are still available. For assistance with booking your next trip and finding an available boat to serve your needs, please call the Mississippi Charter Boat Captain’s Association 228-385-2910 or 228-323-5835.
If fishing is on your list of things to do during your visit to the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast, don’t pass up a chance to charter a boat and “wet a line.” The Mississippi Charter Boat Captains Association is licensed by the United States Coast Guard and, whether you have a large or small group, you’ll be able to find a boat to suit your needs with a seasoned captain happy to share a wealth of knowledge and fishing lore. Customized trips range from 4 - 12 hours or even overnight. Charter boats are equipped with all your needs from bait and tackle and that all-important fishing license. Just bring the sunscreen, clothing suitable for your length of trip and your own food and drink - ice is provided and a great time guaranteed. Tell the charter boat captain if you are interested in targeting a specific species. Areas around inshore oyster reefs and coastal barrier islands offer excellent opportunities to wade or skiff-fish but, if you are hoping to land a fighting fish, the deeper waters around gas and oil rigs offer excellent opportunities to land the catch of a lifetime.
Inshore Fishing
From mid spring through fall, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, red drum, Jack Crevelle, bonito, tarpon, speckled trout, red snapper and cobia are biting. Small coastal sharks can be caught with light tackle during the summer. Bottom-fish for trout, black drum, sheephead, flounder and ground mullet during the short winter season.
Offshore Fishing
Venture into deeper waters to land marlin, tuna, king mackerel, grouper, red snapper, blue fish, amberjack and dolphin. Thirty-five artificial fishing reefs have been established by the State of Mississippi to create feeding sites for these and other species. Wade or skiff-fish for flounder, speckled trout and red drum around the large chain of islands in the Gulf.
